Idukki is one of the 14 districts in the Indian state of Kerala and was established on 26 January 1972. For the people of Kerala, Idukki has always been associated with development. Idukki is one of 14 cities in the western Indian state of Kerala. It is the largest city in Kerala and is located in the Cardamom Hills of the Western Ghats. in Kerala. Idukki district consists of two towns named Kattappana and Thodupuzha and five talukas. The district was formed on January 26, 1972, with the capture of Peerumade, Udumbanchola and Devikulam taluks from the High Range division of the erstwhile Kottayam district and Thodupuzha taluks from the Ernakulam district. Its headquarters was earlier in Kottayam village but was shifted to Painavu and Kuilimala near Cheruthoni in June.
